Common Core: Text Dependent Question Prompts

The Common Core standards focus on students’ ability to read closely to determine what a text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it.

Rather than asking students questions about their prior knowledge or experience, the standards expect students to respond to questions that can only be answered by referring explicitly back to the text in front of them. This resource contains 16 text dependent questions. It can be used as a center or for small groups.

I sent this postcard to my students before school started last year. I took this document to my local print shop and asked them to print it double sided to look like a postcard. Fraction Benchmark

 

I just finished a fun activity that I am using this week to teach fraction benchmarks.  This is a wonderful resource to help students learn to estimate fractions on a number line.  Students will estimate whether each fraction is closer to 0, 1/2, or 1.  Click here to purchase this activity from my Teachers Notebook store for $2.00.

A Monday Freebie!

I've got the Monday Blues :)  After a long, wonderful winter break and a short week last week, I definitely woke up with the Monday Blues today.  I'm ready to get back into the swing of things and start a fresh new year with my little ones.

 

I'm joining Charity over at the Classroom Freebies Blog to share a fun activity for adding and subtracting money using a menu.  I created a menu that I glued on to construction paper and laminated. I use them every year and my students LOVE it. The document is 9 pages and includes the menu and worksheets for adding and subtracting money. Students pretend they are a waiter or waitress and take orders from eachother in order to add and subtract money.
