I am linking up with I {Heart} Recess for her Back to School linky. I love making goals or myself, both professionally and personally. Here are my 2013-2014 goals:
Personal: I always feel so much better after a good workout. I want to make it a priority every night to go to the gym and break a sweat.
Organization: I love labels. Everything needs its place and a label to go with it. This is a goal I would like to continue this school year.
Planning: I am starting a new grade in a new county, so everything is new this year. I am excited for a change, but change is also scary. We have a lot of planning time put in to our schedule so this will definitely help. We have to stay a week ahead with our lesson plans, so I'd like to stay two weeks ahead.
Professional: Last year I implemented Daily 5 for reading. It was hard to get used to, but it was definitely worth it. This year I am doing the same for math, so I am anxious to see how it goes.
Students: This year I want to help my students set realistic monthly goals. I'd also like to find a way for them to chart or keep track of the growth that they make.
Motto: Take it a day at a time. I always try to plan so far in advance and think about what's next. I need to slow down and enjoy what I'm doing at the time.
Check out her blog to join this fun linky. What are your goals for this school year?
I do math groups (I started this year) and I (and the kids) loved it! Good luck!

I think it's important to slow down and enjoy each day too! We get so wrapped up with what we have to teach, test, and accomplish that we are always focused on the future instead of the present! I'm definitely going to try and keep that in mind for this school year!

I can't wait to hear about how Daily 5 for math works in your room.

Hi Bre-
ReplyDeleteI love my gym time, too. I think it keeps me sane! I love your idea of staying two weeks ahead, that is awesome! Best of luck in the new school. How exciting!

One of my goals this year is also to start labeling everything. I've done it in the past and always been so much more organized when I've kept up with it! I've let myself get lazy about it with classroom moves (this will be my 4th year in a row changing classrooms...and grades now that I think about it lol).

I definitely need to incorporate a little workout in my day too! Great goals. Thanks for sharing.

I agree with your motto about slowing down, especially when May comes around and you can hardly believe the year is already gone!

I've been reading a lot about setting up math groups on the web. Is there a good math book to go along with that? We want to start it this year!

Hey there! I share many of the same B2S goals as you. Especially take it one day at a time. It is hard to be in the moment and in the next few weeks at the same time. It is a part of the job, but I do need to work on focusing on here and now more often. Thanks for sharing!
