Math Mania
I love creating fun math games and centers to reinforce the skills we are working on in class. Especially with state testing coming up, it is a great way to review past skills and concepts. Here are a few of my favorites. Click on the link to purchase these items from my Teachers Pay Teachers store.
Decimal Mix and Match Game- $2.00
This seven page document covers the place value skill with decimals. Students will match up the standard form, expanded form, and word form. Place value goes to the hundredths place.
Comparing Fractions Game- $2.00
This is a fun game for students to play to the skill of comparing fractions. Students will each choose one card and whoever has the highest fraction keeps the cards. They will keep playing until all of the cards are gone.
Long Division Activity- $2.00
This 9 page activity works on students' long division skills. They will choose one of the numbers on the leaf. This will be the dividend. Then choose one of the single digit numbers as your divisor. A paper is provided for them to write the problem and the answer. Remainders are included in these problems. The cute Hawaii theme will engage students.
Adding and Subtracting Fractions with Like Denominators
This is a free 8 page game on adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators. There are fraction problems and pictures of fractions included.

What Good Readers Do
Last
week after a lesson on inferences I asked my students why they thought we were learning
this skill. Their answers included, “So we can
get 100%”, “To fill out the worksheet”, and many other answers that made me
bite my tongue. I finally got the answer
I wanted from a student I didn’t necessarily expect it from. She said so that we can be better
readers.
This really got me thinking. I want my students to
understand WHY we are working so hard on our reading strategies. Not to get the good grade, but to become
better readers.
Today
we discussed what a good reader looks like and what they do. After brainstorming, we used our journals to
draw a picture of themselves and list good “reader” habits. It turned out really cute and my students got
a lot out of it. Take a look at our
pictures below.
Did
I mention that I CANNOT draw?

Superfudge
We
just finished reading Superfudge, by Judy Blume. My students loved this
book. It is packed full of humor and is a pretty easy read. Some of the
vocabulary was difficult for my third graders, but they really enjoyed it. I
have activity packets for each chapter. Click on the links below to check them
out at my Teacher's Notebook store.

Go Ravens!
I know I’m a little late, but it's time for Farley's Currently!
So here's the scoop:
Listening to all of the
pre-Super Bowl buzz. I am proud to be
from Baltimore and am hoping that we crush those 49ers.
Loving:
Loving the HUGE sale on TpT. You can't beat 28% off!
Thinking:
Thinking about my
observation this week. Tomorrow we have
30 teachers from local schools coming to see how we implement the Daily 5 in
our classes. Then on Wednesday I have my
yearly observation. I’m sure they will
go fine, but I still get the butterflies beforehand.
Wanting:
Wanting the Ravens to be Super
Bowl champs. They’ve had a great year and really deserve it.
Needing:
Needing to finish my report card comments. Calculating the grades are a piece of cake...however the comments are NOT! I'm more than half way done, so I just need to buckle down and finish them up.
Pet Peeves:
Bad grammar. With my little ones it is understandable, but
come on people. J There, their, and there is one of my biggest pet
peeves. Sometimes on Facebook I have to
stop myself from commenting on status’ and correcting their grammar.
